Janelle Carter’s husband Mark was an organ donor. He saved the lives of up to 10 people.
Mark was the love of my life. We had the rest of our lives to live for. We already had 13 wonderful years together and were planning many more. We loved, laughed, travelled and thoroughly enjoyed the life we had built together. We had plans to start our family and I felt that we were truly blessed. It all fell apart in a second. A freak fall and a crack of the head. The love of my life was on a respirator in intensive care, critically ill.
When the doctors came to tell us that Mark was not going to recover, his Mum, Dad and I talked. Throughout our ordeal in the ICU we focused on Mark’s strength. He was strong in both mind and spirit, a healthy and fit young man it felt like such a waste to see these go, along with his spirit. We felt comforted in the knowledge that Mark would be happy with our decision and want the body he so highly valued to assist others to lead healthy, happy lives.
Three weeks before his accident we conceived a precious little soul. Our beautiful son, Hugo Mark, was born eight months after his Daddy died. He carries the big heart and smile that his Daddy possessed. Hugo is the love of my life.
